Once a darling of “Silicon Valley,” Juul Labs Inc.’s valuation has since plummeted from more than $38 billion to a poultry $4.6 billion in comparison. Much of the lost value is due to well-documented public health concerns for kids, teenagers, and young adults.
The mission of Juul clearly states that its goal is to help smokers transition from combustible cigarettes, eliminate their use, and combat the underage usage of e-cigarette products. However, many opponents believe the opposite to be true.
Currently, Juul is facing tighter marketing regulations, declining sales, and multiple lawsuits claiming that it intentionally sold its vaping devices and vape juice to minors. With that in mind, it’s important to understand the dangers and risks involved in vaping nicotine products before purchasing.
This article discusses the truth about Juul, health risks, and groups most likely to suffer long-term health effects of nicotine vaporizers.

In case you’re not familiar with the history of Juul, we’ve provided a few “Juul truths” below to clear up any misconceptions.
- Juul Labs Inc. was formed in San Francisco in 2015
- It is the top-selling e-cigarette brand in the U.S.

Further, Juul has completely stopped all advertising efforts in the U.S. pending policy changes.
Though the e-cigarette industry is undergoing significant changes, the popularity of nicotine vaping devices continues to grow – especially among younger users.
With that in mind, it’s essential to know the health risks associated with e-cigarettes before you take a puff – because once you do, you may be fighting a nicotine addiction for the rest of your life.
Health Risks To Be Aware Of
A quick search for phrases like Juul addiction Reddit, Juul health risks, and bad Juul pods will uncover a mountain of potential health risks. However, risks are not limited to just Juul nicotine vaporizing e-cigarettes. They apply to most types of e-cigarettes.
According to the CDC, Juul vaporizers and similar e-cigarette devices pose the following risks, especially to kids, teens, and young adults:
- High likelihood of long-term or lifelong nicotine addiction after using
- Delayed development of adolescent brains due to nicotine addiction
- Potentially higher likelihood of smoking cigarettes in the future
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Vision impairment or loss
- Lung, pancreatic, and breast cancer
- Potential reproductive issues
It’s important to note that health risks associated with marijuana vaping devices (THC specifically) are far greater than those posed by traditional e-cigarettes. However, scientists and health experts are not 100 percent clear on all of the long-term effects of Juul vaporizers and other e-cigarettes.
How To Prevent Your Child From Using Vaporizers And E-Cigarettes
Perhaps one of the most frustrating things about Juul vaporizers (from a parent’s perspective) is that they are designed to be concealed. At first glance, Juul vaporizers look like USB devices. That means that they can be easily hidden at home, school, or in public.
Whereas traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes are hard to hide when using, Juul devices offer a level of privacy. Further, Juul vaporizers are smokeless. With that in mind, stopping your child from vaping isn’t always an easy task. The CDC recommends:
- Setting an example for your children by promoting a nicotine-free and smoke-free environment
- Visiting smokefree.gov to learn helpful nicotine cessation tips
- Speaking with your child about the dangers of nicotine addiction and e-cigarettes
- Scheduling a visit with your family physician so your child can learn about the dangers of nicotine and smoking firsthand from a health provider
- Encouraging your child to participate in hobbies, sports, and clubs
- Meeting with your child’s school to inform them of potential vaping at school and brainstorm ways to restrict it
It’s important to inform your child of the dangers of nicotine addiction early to potentially decrease the likelihood of lifelong dependency.
